MARLOW—Laurel Road and Hidden Valley Road were closed Friday evening as all five volunteer fire departments in Anderson County responded to a house fire in Marlow.
The roads were closed because fire trucks are parked in the streets, and water is freezing on the surface of the roadways, said Mark Lucas, Anderson County Sheriff’s Department chief deputy.
The fire was reported at about 4:15 p.m. Friday, Lucas said. All five of the county’s volunteer fire departments responded:Â Marlow, Briceville, Claxton, Andersonville, and Medford. As far as he knew, all five were still at the fire on Friday evening, Lucas said.
It wasn’t clear how long the roads would be shut down or how long the fire departments would be at the house. There were no immediate reports of injuries. The cause of the fire wasn’t clear Friday evening.
The fire appeared to have caused significant damage to the home early Friday evening, including to the roof, at least one side of the home, and the back of the house. Black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles, including in Oak Ridge.
Laurel Road is north of State Route 61 and runs roughly parallel to it between Oliver Springs Highway and Clinton in Anderson County, northeast of Oak Ridge.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
