A Monday night standoff with police ended with no injuries, authorities said.
It started when the Oak Ridge Police Department responded to conduct a welfare check at a home in the 100 block of Robertsville Road at about 5:44 p.m. Monday.
“When officers attempted to make contact with the person inside the home, they observed a man in a crouched position holding an object that may have been a firearm,” the Oak Ridge Police Department said.
“Crisis negotiators were called to the scene to assist, but the individual threatened officers and refused to come out of the house,” the ORPD said.
To alert neighbors and those who might have been traveling in the area, ORPD sent out a Nixle alert message. The Oak Ridge Fire Department was placed on standby, and police evacuated nearby homes and businesses as a precautionary measure.
“After a little over an hour, officers were able to take the individual into protective custody without further incident,” the ORPD said. “The individual was then transported to Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge for evaluation. The individual was not injured during the incident. The individual’s name is not being released as no charges have been filed at this time.”
