Thanks to the work of Safe Kids, the Oak Ridge Police Department, and the Oak Ridge Fire Department, preschool students are now riding safely on the playground with new helmets.

Tribby Kelly, compliance monitor at Oak Ridge Preschool, said students ride tricycles and other wheeled toys at school, and they are now required to wear helmets while riding.

As students had helmet fittings, the officers were encouraging them to repeat the simple words, “Wear it!”

Safe Kids of the Greater Knox Area is led by East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, which provides dedicated and caring staff, operation support, and other resources to assist in achieving a common goal: keeping kids safe, a press release said.

“Based on the needs of the community, this coalition implements evidence-based programs—such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops, and sports clinics—that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries,” the press release said.

This press release was submitted by Holly Cross.
