The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats volleyball team finished undefeated in the district with a 3-0 win over Central on Senior Night at home on Thursday.

That win followed a 3-0 win over Clinton last Monday and 3-0 wins over Powell and Halls the previous week.

Oak Ridge (20-8, 8-0 District 3-AAA) has two games remaining in the regular season. The first is against Farragut at home on Tuesday, September 27. It’s the annual Dig Pink match meant to raise awareness of breast cancer, and it’s expected to be a good match. Junior varsity teams start at 5 p.m., and varsity matches begin at 6.

Farragut (19-3, 5-0 District 4-AAA) finished as state runner-up in Class AAA last year, losing 3-0 to Brentwood in the state championship game in Murfreesboro in October.

Here are final scores from the Oak Ridge-Central game on Thursday:

  • 25-9
  • 25-8
  • 25-9

Here are player statistics:

  • Alex Sherles—13 kills
  • Beth Wyatt—11 aces, 20 assists
  • Olivia Milloway—7 kills

“I’m proud of the girls for the way they performed in the district matchups,” Coach David Kolodney said. “We came in to the year with a goal of making make it to state, and this is the first step. We played our game all year and it’s paid off. But this is just the beginning of what we wanted to achieve and we still have a lot of work to do to accomplish our goal. We’re definitely a team to contend with, and now that we’ve gotten players back from injuries, I think we’re in a great place to make a run.”

On Monday, September 19, Oak Ridge High School defeated Clinton 25-7, 25-5, and 25-6.

Here are player stats from that game:

  • Alex Sherles—21 kills
  • Beth Wyatt—18 assists
  • Isabel Waraksa—5 blocks
  • Carolyn Pelfrey—5 aces

On Wednesday, Oak Ridge High School will host the District 3-AAA junior varsity district tournament. Oak Ridge, the number one seed, will play the winner of a Powell-Central game at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. At the same time, but on another court, Campbell County, the number four seed, will play Halls, the number five seed.

Earlier, at 4:30 p.m., number three Anderson County will play number six Clinton, and number two Gibbs will play number seven Karns.

In other volleyball news, the Jefferson Middle School Lady Eagles finished as district runner-up and advance to sectionals.
