The Oak Ridge Police Department investigated a crash between a car and pedestrian on Oak Ridge Turnpike on Wednesday morning.

The collision was reported sometime around 7 a.m. in a westbound lane near Kentucky Fried Chicken in central Oak Ridge.

The pedestrian, who was not identified, was injured and taken to the hospital. His condition wasn’t immediately available.

The westbound lanes were briefly closed Wednesday morning as officers investigated.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the driver of the car was injured. The gray four-door sedan was parked nearby at Neighborhood Urgent Care, and it had damage to the hood and windshield and detectives also investigated the rear of the car.

It’s not clear if the pedestrian was on the Turnpike at the time of the crash. There is a sidewalk next to the road, but no crosswalk in that area.

Wednesday afternoon update posted at 2:35 p.m.: The pedestrian has died. Please see newer story here.
