Dodson has campaign kickoff party, fundraiser on Tuesday

 

Jim Dodson is having a kickoff party and fundraiser for his campaign for Oak Ridge City Council on Tuesday, August 15.

The kickoff will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, at Razzleberry’s restaurant in Jackson Square. Ridge City Ramblers, a local musical group, will perform. Those interested in showing their support or getting to know Dodson are invited to stop by, a press release said.

Dodson is a 30-year-teacher at Jefferson Middle School. He has a history of community involvement that includes United Way, Explore Oak Ridge (formerly the Oak Ridge Convention and Visitors Bureau), Secret City Festival, Arts Council, and more, the press release said.

It said Dodson hopes to expand his community coalition building experience by bringing these skills to the Oak Ridge City Council.

“I love my city and what makes it such a unique place in East Tennessee,” Dodson said. “From its special history to its support of the arts to its excellent education system to its varied outdoor spaces and activities, I wouldn’t live or work anywhere else. I want to share this Secret City with others so we can grow our economy and have resources to further improve our schools and safe neighborhoods.”

Dodson has been married to his wife, Becky, for 32 years, and their daughter Laura, a product of the school system, just received her doctorate in physical therapy, the press release said. Former mayor of Oak Ridge and local banker David Bradshaw serves as Dodson’s campaign treasurer.

“I hope our Oak Ridge neighbors will stop by for a visit on August 16 to share their ideas and vision for our community in the coming years,” the press release said.
