A Heiskell woman had to be freed from a car and flown to a hospital by a medical helicopter after a crash on Norris Freeway on Friday evening, authorities said.

The single-vehicle crash was reported at about 7:09 p.m. Friday on Norris Freeway near Foust Hollow Road in Anderson County, the Tennessee Highway Patrol said.

Karen Nolan, 60, was driving north on Norris Freeway, also known as US 441, when the 2006 Buick Century went off the left side of the road, the THP said. The car traveled through a fence and down an embankment, rolling several times before coming to a stop on its driver’s side, a preliminary THP report said.

Nolan was extricated from the car and taken to Fairview Elementary School, where a University of Tennessee Lifestar medical helicopter picked her up, according to the Norris Department of Public Safety and Public Safety Officer Rick Roach. Nolan had ended up in the back seat of the car during the crash, Roach said.

The THP said her injuries were not life-threatening.

Nolan was not wearing a seat belt, and she was charged with due care and seat belt violations, the THP said.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
