Trees down, power outages, flooding reported in Oak Ridge, Anderson County

Officials reported that trees were down across Oak Ridge and Anderson County on Wednesday morning, there were several power outages in Oak Ridge, and flooding was reported at some spots in Anderson County.

The flooding, fallen trees, and power outages were reported after a round of storms came through Wednesday morning.

Crews from the city and county are responding.

“Please be patient while our crews work to restore power and clear trees,” the City of Oak Ridge said.

Wednesday morning, Scott Jackson, Oak Ridge Public Works Department operations manager, said trees had been reported down on Nebraska Avenue, on Warehouse Road at the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter, at Brentwood and Barrington drives, and on Amanda Place.

The Oak Ridge Electric Department also reminded people to please stay away from all downed power lines “as they may be live and you could be seriously injured.”

The Electric Department had said it expected all power to be restored by 1 p.m. Wednesday. But early Wednesday afternoon, officials said new outages developed during the past two hours.

“Crews are on site in several areas,” the Electric Department said. “No estimates for restoration at this time.”

In Anderson County, many of the reports of trees down across roadways and power lines were in the eastern end of the county, Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said.

There were also reports of flooded roads due to high water. Among the flooded roadways was Airport Road near Oliver Springs. Other flooded roads included Irwin Mill Road and Offutt Road at Offutt Spur Road, and they were closed.

“Please use caution and never drive through high water,” the Sheriff’s Department said.

But Lucas said there were no reports of any major damage or issues, and no reports of traffic accidents.

“State and county highway department crews are out clearing the trees,” he said.
