An Oak Ridge man was charged with kidnapping and aggravated robbery after he allegedly held a gun to the back of his ex-girlfriend’s head before stealing her cell phones and $1,200 in cash, authorities said.
The robbery was reported at about 9:16 a.m. Friday, December 11, at a home on Northwestern Avenue.
The ex-girlfriend told Oak Ridge Police Department Officer Kevin Merritt that she awoke to a loud noise and found Dmantiz A. Bowser, 21, in the back bedroom. She asked him what he was doing, according to warrants filed in Anderson County General Sessions Court.
“She said the defendant then pulled a small black gun out of his front pocket, grabbed her by her right arm and twisted it behind her back,” the warrants said. “She said he then shoved her face down in the couch, putting his knee on her back, and putting the pistol to the back of her head.
“She said he then asked her: ‘Where’s the money? I know you have some money,'” Merritt reported.
The ex-girlfriend told Bowser it was in the other bedroom. Bowser allegedly told her not to move, ran to the bedroom, and kicked in the door, damaging it, according to the warrants.
Once he allegedly found the money, he left, Merritt said.
The ex-girlfriend realized her phone was missing when she went to call the police.
“She further advised the defendant took approximately $1,200 cash and valued the two cell phones at $250,” Merritt said. The door was valued at $300.
A second victim/witness, who had been asleep on the living room floor, told Merritt that she woke up to Bowser leaning over his ex-girlfriend on the couch, yelling “where’s the (expletive) money?”
She said when (the ex-girlfriend) told Bowser where the money was, “he ran to the back bedroom and kicked the door in,” Merritt reported.
The second victim noticed her iPhone 6S+, valued at $600, and $65 in cash were missing, according to the warrants.
Bowser had been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, and vandalism. He remained jailed in the Anderson Detention Facility in Clinton on Tuesday afternoon.
