The day after he was found unresponsive in a bathroom, with a syringe on the floor and suspected heroin in his jacket pocket, a 27-year-old Oak Ridge man allegedly attacked his 81-year-old grandfather, pushed him down, and stole his wallet, authorities said.

Trenton Johnson of Briarwood Drive was found on his back and unresponsive on a bathroom floor, lying between a toilet and bathtub, at the Briarwood Drive home on Saturday, December 19, Oak Ridge Police Department Officer Kevin M. Merritt said.

A syringe was on the floor next to Johnson, Merritt said. On the edge of the bathtub, there was a pack of cigarettes, lighter, and metal spoon, the officer said.

Johnson was taken to Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge to be evaluated. A search of his blue fleece jacket found a small clear baggie inside a chest pocket that contained a light brown powdery substance that tested positive for heroin and was identified by Johnson as heroin, Merritt said.

The next day, Sunday, December 20, Johnson’s grandfather told ORPD Officer Christopher Wallace that Johnson had asked for money and to use his vehicle, arrest warrants said. The grandfather said no and tried to go back inside his home on Briarwood Drive, according to the warrants.

“As the victim was unlocking the door, he advised he was attacked from behind by the defendant,” Wallace said in the warrants. “The victim stated the defendant pushed him into the kitchen hallway and onto the ground, causing a cut to the victim’s left palm. As the victim tried to stand up, the defendant again pushed him down into the kitchen cabinets, stole the victim’s wallet from his back pants pocket and fled the scene.”

After Johnson allegedly pushed his grandfather to the ground, he stood over him and said, according to the warrants, “I’ll show you what happens when you treat me like this.”

Wallace pointed out that the grandfather is 81, and Johnson is 27.

Johnson has been charged with simple possession of heroin, domestic assault, and robbery.

He remained jailed in the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton on Tuesday afternoon.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
