Greenhalgh, girls relay team finish 11th at state track meet

MURFREESBORO—Sophomore Abbey Greenhalgh finished 11th in the 800-meter run, and the Oak Ridge High School girls relay team finished 11th in the 4×100-meter relay and 4×200-meter relay during the Class AAA state track meet in Murfreesboro on Thursday, May 21.

And ORHS senior Lauren Smallwood finished 13th in the 200-meter dash.

There were 16 competitors in each race.

Greenhalgh (11th) had a time of 2:26.13 in the 800-meter run. The top three runners were Celine Rone, a senior at Arlington (2:16.35); Hailey Hendry, a junior at Brentwood (2:17.85), and Shian Mallory, a junior at Houston (2:18.33).

The ORHS Wildcats (11th) had a time of 50.98 in the 4×100-meter relay. The top three teams were White Station (49.06), Southwind (49.14), and Houston (49.85).

The Wildcats (11th) finished at 1:46.82 in the 4×200-meter relay. The top three teams in that event were Whitehaven (1:42.12), Houston (1:43.59), and Southwind (1:43.95).

The relay team includes Smallwood, junior Caelyn Thompson, and runners Toni Sheets and Bre Young.

Smallwood’s time (13th) in the 200-meter dash was 26.41. The top three runners were Maia McCoy, a senior at Whitehaven (24.55); Kiana Davis, a senior at Ooltewah (25.10); and Jordan Ray, a junior at Southwind (25.40).

The track meet was at Middle Tennessee State University. It was part of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s 2015 Spring Fling Championships, which also included state tournaments in soccer, baseball, and softball.

The boys track meet was on Friday, May 22.
