An Oak Ridge man who allegedly stabbed the hood of a vehicle and chased the driver at an apartment complex on Monday morning has been charged with aggravated assault and vandalism, authorities said.
The driver fled the vehicle, but he was allegedly chased by Timothy J. Phillips, 55, a press release said.
“The driver of the vehicle eventually punched Mr. Phillips in the head, causing him to fall to the ground,” said the release, from the City of Oak Ridge. “The driver of the vehicle sustained a minor cut on one finger; Mr. Phillips had a laceration on his forehead and was bleeding from the mouth.”
Phillips was arrested and taken to the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, where he received treatment for his injuries. He was then taken to the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton and charged with aggravated assault and vandalism, the press release said.
The incident occurred at McKenzie Acres Apartments at 100 Utica Circle in Oak Ridge on Monday morning. Police had responded to a disturbance involving a subject who was reported to be armed with a knife. Witnesses and a victim told police that Phillips had “engaged in a verbal altercation with subjects who were visiting with a person at the apartments at Utica Circle,” the release said. “The altercation continued when Mr. Phillips and one of the subjects walked to the entrance of apartment complex, where Mr. Phillips brandished a knife and began stabbing the hood of a vehicle.”
The press release said the investigation is ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time.
