Oak Ridge High School Masquers, the school’s drama program, will present the musical “Oliver” in four performances in March.
The performances are scheduled for Friday, March 6, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m., at the Oak Ridge Performing Arts Center at ORHS.
Director Dana Wham, whose first performance as a young actor was in “Oliver,” has directed, choreographed, or acted in numerous adult and children productions throughout the region, and says this year’s musical is the biggest the school has produced during her time as director.
“Come see the marvelous cast of students and teachers make Charles Dickens’s London come alive as we follow the title character Oliver,” a press release said. “Watch as the poor, brave boy struggles with a terrible orphanage, runs away from a disastrous foster home, and joins a pack of thieves just trying to make him one of the family. Will Oliver find the home he deserves, with someone who will love him? Or will he fall into hard company and a life of crime?”
With a cast of more than 40 students and three faculty members, the hit 1960 musical will be sure to please with classic songs like “Food, Glorious Food.â€
Masquers is a student-driven extracurricular program at ORHS of 65-plus students supported by community members and teaching staff. Past performances have included “The Sound of Music,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Murder in the Magnolias,” “Emma,” and many more. Masquers’ yearly season includes a fall play, a spring musical, a night of short sketches, and a murder mystery train dinner in conjunction with the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum.
Advance tickets are $7, and they are available at the ORHS office and The Ferrell Shop. At the door, tickets will be $8 for students and $10 for adults.
