Sound Company Children’s Choir of Oak Ridge
The much-anticipated Sparkly Jolly Twinkle Holly holiday concert by Sound Company is set for the first weekend in December. “Don’t miss the festive costumes and seasonal stylings of Sound Company Children’s Choir of Oak Ridge,” a press release said.
Performances will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 6, and 6 p.m. Sunday, December 7, at the High Places Church at Grove Center, in Oak Ridge’s historic Grove Theater.
The press release said more than 100 talented young vocalists in grades one through 12 will present everything from classical holiday carols to Louis Armstrong jazz (“Zat You Santa Claus?”), an Elvis Christmas medley, and pop ballad “Peppermint Winter” by Owl City. Sound Company is polishing a range of holiday tunes, including “Hanukkah Shalom,” a traditional Spanish carol, and spirited “Mele Kalikimaka” from Hawaii.
“Of course, you won’t want to miss the new holiday classic popularized in the show ‘Elf,’ ‘Sparklejollytwinklejingley,’ complete with kick line,” the press release said.
“We’re constantly challenging our singers to stretch their vocal abilities, work as a choir, and learn the versatility it takes to succeed on stage,” Sound Company Director Katy Wolfe Zahn said. “The result is more than music education, but a high-energy, entertaining performance!”
Wolfe Zahn says she hopes the audience will connect with the sense of nostalgia for old and new holiday favorites.
Sound Company Children’s Choir of Oak Ridge has been serving the East Tennessee area since 2003 as its premiere nonprofit children’s choral performance organization. Through the years, Sound Company has performed with both the Oak Ridge and Knoxville Symphony Orchestras, in various community events, and even in Switzerland.
Limited tryouts for new members are open each August.
Sound Company provides music education for children from primary and secondary schools throughout East Tennessee. Wolfe Zahn is the masters of fine arts voice teacher for the University of Tennessee, while longtime director Terry Silver-Alford teaches musical theater performance at UT. Director Mariana Garciagodoy is in UT’s graduate choral conducting program, and director Kathy Gillenwaters graduated from esteemed Emory and Henry College.
Sound Company volunteer board President Linda Ripley said: “Sound Company is a group of amazing kids who come from different schools and different walks of life, who come together to make beautiful music. These kids are inspiring in their creativity and love of music. If you haven’t seen a Sound Company performance, make plans to attend a show!”
Ticket prices are $7 for adults, and $5 for children and seniors. Advance tickets from any Sound Company member are available at a $1 discount off the regular box office price.
