The Arc Anderson County is hosting a mini-conference on intellectual and developmental disabilities for parents and teachers on Saturday.
The mini-conference is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 15, at Roane State Community College in Oak Ridge.
“This is a critical time in the history for our young adults transitioning out of high school,” a press release said. “Big changes are coming from the Department of Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Services, and parents desperately need information to guide their loved ones through this transition.”
Here are some topics of interest:
- Secondary Transition
- Intro to Adult Services
- Employment Options
- History of the Disability Movement
- Alternatives to Conservatorship and Conservatorship
The mini-conference is brought to you by Carrie Hobbs Guiden, Loria Richardson, and Scott Finney from The Arc Tennessee office in Nashville.
The mini-conference will also include a question-and-answer session with Tennessee Representative John Ragan (or his assistant).
Coffee and donuts will be offered at check-in, and lunch will be provided, the press release said.
While parents attend meetings, children and young adults will be provided respite—art in the morning, and music in the afternoon. At the end of the day, there will be an art show and a performance.
The cost is $20 to cover food, art supplies, materials, and printing. Partial and full scholarships are available upon request.
Please call (865) 742-8523 or (865) 481-0550 to make your reservation or email Arc at [email protected].
