A Sharps Chapel man died in a Sunday afternoon shooting in Andersonville, authorities said.
James Alvin Russell, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department said.
The shooting was reported at 4:35 p.m. Sunday at 1229 Sequoyah Road. In a Sunday evening statement, Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said the victim was dead when deputies arrived, and the shooter was still there.
In a statement later Sunday night, Lucas said Sheriff’s Department investigators were processing the crime scene and interviewing the person responsible for the shooting, as well as a witness.
“No charges have been filed, and no additional names will be released at this time,” Lucas said. “The District Attorney General’s Office and the Regional Forensic Center (medical examiner) are on the scene and assisting in the investigation.
“As this is an ongoing investigation, no further information can be released.”
Sequoyah Road is north of Norris and Andersonville, and it branches off Park Lane and runs down to the waterfront on Norris Lake.
