Two college professors and a co-director of a reproductive health center will discuss three proposed constitutional amendments that will be considered by Tennessee voters in the November 4 election.
The proposed amendments will be discussed during a Tuesday evening forum in Oak Ridge.
Corinne Rovetti, co-director and family nurse practitioner for the Knoxville Center for Reproductive Health, will address Amendment 1, which deals with reproductive choice and privacy, a press release said.
Judy Cornett, distinguished professor in the College of Law at the University of Tennessee, will discuss Amendment 2, which proposes a change in the selection of appellate judges.
And Sherry Davis Kasper, professor of economics at Maryville College, will discuss Amendment 3, which would prohibit any tax on payroll or earned income.
At the conclusion of the speakers’ presentations, there will be a question-and-answer period, the release said.
The forum starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, at the Pollard Auditorium on the Oak Ridge Associated Universities campus at 120 Badger Road. It’s free and open to the public.
The League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge and Knoxville are partnering with the Oak Ridge Branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women) and the Women’s Interfaith Dialogue of Oak Ridge to present the forum.
A fourth proposed constitutional amendment, Amendment 4, which would permit veterans’ organizations to hold fundraising lotteries like other nonprofit organizations, will not be addressed directly.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy, the release said. The league neither supports nor opposes any candidate, party, or political appointee.
