The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcats (and Baby Cats) played their last district match this past Thursday versus Gibbs High School.

Leading into this match, both the junior varsity and varsity teams were undefeated in district play. A win this past Thursday would cinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming district tournaments. Both teams won! The Baby Cats won in straight sets and secured the No 1 spot in the JV District Tournament, which will occur this Wednesday, October 1. ORHS is hosting the District JV Tournament starting at 4:30 p.m.

In the follow-up match, the varsity Lady Wildcats won in straight sets against Gibbs: 25-9, 25-12, and 25-8. Gibbs was led by players Morgan Worley with three kills and four digs, and Michaela Wilson with two kills and two digs.

But, before the match started, the ORHS team celebrated its five seniors:

  • #27—Rachel Card
  • #30—Emily Campbell
  • #21—Rachel Loeffler
  • #3—Sami Viau
  • #12—Mattie Livengood

For four years, they have worked hard and have been an integral part of the team. It is due to their enthusiasm, dedication to team, and competitiveness that the Lady Wildcats find themselves in the position they are in now. We are forever grateful for their contribution and wish them well in their future endeavors.

ORHS was led by senior Mattie Livengood with eight kills, nine digs, one solo block, and two service aces; Rachel Card with seven kills and two aces, Sami Viau with 13 digs, and junior Emma Milloway with eight kills, two digs, and one ace.

They were assisted by #22, Alex Sherles, who had six kills, seven digs, 11 assists, and three aces. Contributing to the win was freshman libero Reagan Dickens (#4) with 13 digs and four service aces, and middle hitter Olivia Milloway (#7) with five kills, three digs, and one ace. Sophomore Beth Wyatt added 20 assists.

The Lady Wildcats secured the No. 1 spot in the District III Tournament, which will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 7 and 8, at Central High School.
