An Oak Ridge man who allegedly fired one shot from a pistol during a disturbance in a parking lot on Wakefield Road on Monday has been charged with six counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment, authorities said.
Police responded to the disturbance call, which involved several people, at an apartment complex at 105 Wakefield Road at about 7:40 p.m. Monday, an Oak Ridge Police Department press release said. During the disturbance, a man allegedly fired one shot from a pistol, the release said.
Before officers arrived, witnesses said, the suspect entered Apartment #E, and he possessed a second firearm, the press release said. ORPD officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the apartment building.
An ORPD Crisis Intervention Team-trained negotiator then established contact with the suspect, and ORPD tactical personnel arrived, the press release said.
At about 8:40 p.m., the suspect, identified as Abacuc Vazquez, 52, who lives in Apartment #E, surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with six counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment.
Two semiautomatic pistols were seized at the scene, and a second person, Megan Loy, 28, who also lives in Apartment #E, was arrested. She was charged with tampering with evidence, the press release said.
Both Vazquez and Loy were taken to the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton.
“The investigation remains ongoing; no further information will be released at this time,” the ORPD said.
