A Knoxville teenager has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault in an alleged stabbing after a fight ensued when he went to pick up a car on Mehaffey Road in eastern Anderson County on March 24, authorities said.
Dakota Michael Rogers, 19, allegedly went to the home at about 9 p.m. March 24 to pay for a car and repay a female resident who had loaned him money for it, Anderson County Sheriff’s Department investigator Mark Bolton said in affidavits filed in General Sessions Court in Clinton.
But Rogers, who was arrested Monday, allegedly got into a fight with a male resident. It started in the living room and then spilled out onto the porch, according to the affidavits. Bolton said the two men do not get along.
The victim said the two men were separated by a porch rail, and when he walked to it, Rogers stabbed him in the belly near his belly button. The victim said he he did not see the knife.
The victim told Bolton that he grabbed for Rogers and fell over the rail, and the two wrestled on the ground. The victim said he felt the knife stab him several more times, and “he finally was able to get hold of Dakota’s hand and stop the stabbing,” according to the affidavits.
“(The victim) felt the blood coming from his body and went inside to get help,” the affidavits said.
Meanwhile, Rogers and another man allegedly left in a Chevrolet pickup truck, Bolton said.
The investigator said Rogers voluntarily gave a statement after being located and read his Miranda rights. Rogers told Bolton he picked up the victim and tossed him over the porch railing, and the man ran into Rogers’ knife after Rogers told him to “stop or he would stick him.”
The victim was stabbed six times, but he has been released from the hospital. Bolton said one stab wound punctured his chest cavity wall.
Rogers remained jailed at the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton on Tuesday morning. His bond has been set at $125,000.
