Obituary: Ulys W. Phillips

Ulys W. Phillips, age 78, of Lake City, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Ulys was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing and restoring antique cars. Ulys was a “pure ole country boy” and loved helping others who were in need.

Ulys was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Thomas Phillips and Oma; brothers, Lonny Phillips and Louie Phillips; and sisters, Pearl Daugherty, Mae Daugherty, Saralena Phillips, and Hazel Buhl.

Ulys is survived by his daughter, Patricia Hammons of Harriman; brothers, Onzie Phillips of Caryville, Tommy Phillips and wife Brenda of Caryville; sister, Litha Kennedy of Lake City; one grandson, Dwane Cowan; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ulys’ family and friends will have a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Little Community Baptist Church cemetery in Clinton, with Rev. Ulys Ray Phillips officiating.

Jones Mortuary in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.
