Sheriff Paul White announced Tuesday that the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department has been awarded a traffic safety grant for the fifth year.
The grant award of $40,000 from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office will support the traffic safety program “Reducing Fatalities In Anderson County,” a press release said. The grant will increase efforts to reduce fatalities through enforcement of laws governing driving under the influence and impaired driving, as well as seatbelt enforcement.
The primary goals of this program are to save lives and reduce injuries from motor vehicle crashes by proactive traffic enforcement, the release said. White sought assistance from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office for this program again this year to promote traffic safety in Anderson County.
The $40,000 from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Governor’s Highway Safety Office, will provide overtime for traffic safety efforts in Anderson County.
“Our thanks to the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Governor’s Highway Safety Office for their assistance in continuing this funding for Anderson County,” White said.
