Emergency workers were unable to save a man found with two apparent gunshot wounds in his chest on Tuesday in the rear parking lot of a mental health center in Oak Ridge.

The Oak Ridge Police Department has not released the man’s name or age, and a report said the shooting remains under investigation.

The ORPD report said officers responded to a call of an attempted suicide in the rear parking lot of Ridgeview at about 4:11 p.m. Tuesday. The man was found in a vehicle with the gunshot wounds, the report said.

Rescuers started lifesaving efforts and the man was taken next door to Methodist Medical Center, but he did not survive, ORPD Officer John B. Thomas said in the report.

The report said officers found Smith and Wesson firearms/ammunition, two spent .38 Special shell casings, and four .38 special handgun rounds, and they recovered two slugs from the vehicle.

I am so sorry. What terrible pain he must have been experiencing due to his poor mental health.

I wasn’t going to say that. Yes it was, someone showed it to me but I didn’t want John to know. I’m loyal to Oak Ridge Today.

Thank you for your support, Jason. I don’t mind sharing information from other media sources or linking to it when appropriate. I missed the identification elsewhere, but I’ll see what I can find out.
