There is a Thursday evening forum for candidates for Oak Ridge City Council and Oak Ridge Board of Education.
The candidate forum is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 20, in City Room A-111 in the Coffey/McNally Building at Roane State Community College, 701 Briarcliff Avenue. It’s been organized by the League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge.
Candidates running for Oak Ridge City Council and Oak Ridge Board of Education have been invited to participate, a press release said. William “Bear†Stephenson has been invited to moderate.
There are five candidates for four seats on Oak Ridge City Council. The candidates are incumbents Warren L. Gooch and Ellen Smith, both seeking their third consecutive four-year term; former City Council member L.C. “Charlie” Hensley; and two new challengers, Carmen DeLong and Sean Gleason.
There are four candidates for three seats on the Oak Ridge Board of Education. The candidates are incumbents Laura McLean, who has served since 2014, and Benjamin J. Stephens and Erin S. Webb, who have been board members since 2018, and challenger Heather G. Hartman.
“Several of these candidates are new to Oak Ridge voters,” a press release said. “To become better acquainted with the new candidates and reacquainted with the opinions of incumbents, we are inviting all candidates to give opening statements, answer questions from the audience and the moderator, and give closing statements.”
The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a meet-and-greet for candidates and the public on October 20 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Visitor’s Lobby adjacent to A-111 City Room right before the candidate forum.
“This will be the perfect time for informal discussions with the candidates,” the press release said.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
