Three Oak Ridge police officers reportedly shot at a man and he was struck and killed Saturday night after he allegedly charged at the officers with two knives, according to state officials.
The shooting was reported on Briar Road just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The man who allegedly had two knives and was shot and killed was Fred John Henry Arcera, 41.
The Oak Ridge Police Department had responded to a report of individual needing help.
“At some point during their interaction, Arcera reportedly came at the officers with the weapons, resulting in three officers firing shots, striking him,” the TBI said. “He was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.”
The TBI is investigating the shooting at the request of Seventh Judicial District Attorney General Dave Clark in Anderson County. The investigative findings will be shared with Clark throughout the process for his consideration and review, the TBI said. It could be several months before any findings are made public. The public findings usually include more information about the events that led up to the shooting and an assessment of whether the shooting was justified, and previous reports have identified officers involved.
The TBI does not identify officers involved in police shootings, and the ORPD said it will not release the names of the officers involved.

In a social media post, Clark said the investigation will be thorough.
