Three people were shot in Oak Ridge on Thursday, four bystanders were allegedly in imminent danger, and two people have been arrested, with one facing two charges of attempted first-degree murder, according to police and court records.
Adrian Conan Curb, the 40-year-old Oak Ridge man charged with attempted murder after the shooting, allegedly had a handgun with a drum-style magazine attached, according to arrest warrants filed in Anderson County General Sessions Court.
The shooting was reported at about 8:39 p.m. Thursday on South Dillard Avenue in Scarboro.
The three people who were shot were taken to hospitals with injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening, the Oak Ridge Police Department said in a press release Friday.
As of Friday evening, Curb had been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder for allegedly shooting two of the alleged victims, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly shooting the third victim, and four counts of reckless endangerment for the four bystanders who were in imminent danger.
The arrest warrants said even more bystanders, a total of at least eight, were caught in the line of fire.
Curb has also been charged with possessing a firearm during a dangerous felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The arrest warrants said Curb is a felon previously convicted of drug offenses and numerous violent crimes, including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and other weapons charges.
Also arrested after the Thursday evening shooting was Tyshaia Najoyce O’Neal, 24, also of Oak Ridge. She has been charged with being an accessory after the fact.
The arrest warrants, which were filed by ORPD Sergeant Marvell Moore, said Curb had an ongoing dispute with at least one of the intended victims. Before the Thursday evening shooting, Curb was agitated, and he retrieved a semi-automatic .40-caliber pistol from inside a black Hyundai sport utility vehicle in which he had been a passenger, Moore said in the warrants.
“Curb immediately approached the intended victim(s) and bystanders and began shooting with intent,” Moore said. “Curb took aim at each victim and did not shoot indiscriminately. Multiple shots were fired by Curb, and when the gun jammed, Curb cleared the malfunction and resumed shooting at his intended victims.”
One victim was shot in the back/left shoulder and another was hit in the abdomen, and the two men required emergency medical treatment, Moore said. The third victim was shot in his right leg, Moore said.
After the shooting, Curb fled in the SUV, which was driven by O’Neal, the warrants said. The two drove to O’Neal’s home on Outer Drive and tried to avoid being caught, the warrants said.
Curb and O’Neal both remained in the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton on Friday evening. Bond for Curb has been set at $340,000, and bond for O’Neal has been set at $10,000, according to court records.
A motive for the shooting has not been determined, and the investigation continues, the ORPD said.
