The driver killed in the two-vehicle crash on Edgemoor Road on Monday morning has been identified as Michelle Garcia, 61, of Clinton, police said.

The head-on collision, which killed Garcia and injured the other driver, was reported at about 6:30 a.m. Monday near Haw Ridge Park. The name of the other driver hasn’t been released yet.

“The crash remains under investigation,” the Oak Ridge Police Department said Friday. “No other details will be released at this time.”

Garcia was born in Okinawa, Japan, and moved to the United States in 1969 and to East Tennessee in the 1990s, according to her obituary. She received her nursing degree at Roane State Community College.

Garcia volunteered a lot of her time at the Friends of Oak Ridge Animal Shelter, her obituary said. She enjoyed gardening, watching football, and cheering on her Tennessee Volunteers and South Carolina Gamecocks.

It was the second fatal crash in Oak Ridge in one week and the third fatal crash in the area in the past month.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
