One person died in a two-vehicle crash on Edgemoor Road on Monday, police said.

The head-on collision was reported at about 6:30 a.m. Monday near Haw Ridge Park. The Oak Ridge Police Department and Oak Ridge Fire Department responded.

Each vehicle had a single occupant, the ORPD said. One driver died from their injuries. The other driver was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

The names of the drivers have not been released yet, and the cause of the crash was not immediately available Monday afternoon.

The affected section of Edgemoor Road was closed while crews responded to the scene and reconstructed the crash. Edgemoor Road reopened to normal traffic at about 11:30 a.m. Monday.

“The crash remains under investigation,” the ORPD said. “No further information will be released at this time.”

It’s the second fatal crash in Oak Ridge in one week. A 77-year-old woman, Johnnie Gary, died in a fatal two-vehicle crash on Oak Ridge Turnpike on Tuesday afternoon, April 30.

It’s the third fatal crash in the area in the past month. A 66-year-old Knoxville man, Douglas A. Batson, was killed in a fatal single-vehicle crash into Bull Run Creek in Claxton on Thursday night, April 18.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
