The next Lunch with the League program will be held on Tuesday, April 16. The speaker will be Jon Hetrick, director of the Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department.
Hetrick will provide an update on the department, which is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and coordinating a comprehensive plan of leisure activities for the citizens of Oak Ridge, a press release said. It is also charged with providing safe and well-maintained facilities for its patrons. The department maintains more than 30 city-owned properties, including athletic fields, horticultural displays, playground areas, tennis courts, community center buildings, and swimming pools.
Hetrick graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1994 and became a resident of Oak Ridge in 1996. He has been an employee of the city Parks Division since 2003 and director of Recreation and Parks since 2014. He and his wife MacKenzie have five children.
The meeting will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Social Hall of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike. The presentation will begin at noon. Lunches are provided by the Soup Kitchen and are available at 11:30 a.m., on a first-come basis for $8, or you may bring your own. Coffee and tea will be provided.
Lunch with the League is a public service program open to the community. Membership in the League of Women Voters is not required, and there is no cost to attend, the press release said.
The League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge, a nonpartisan political organization for women and men, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy, the press release said.
