Oak Ridge High School Masquers, the school’s drama program, will present “Annie,” the classic musical, for four performances this weekend.
Here are the scheduled performances at the Oak Ridge Performing Arts Center at Oak Ridge High School:
- Friday, March 1, at 7 p.m.,
- Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and
- Sunday, March 3, at 2 p.m.
Advanced tickets are $8, and they are available at the ORHS office and The Ferrell Shop. At the door, tickets will be $9 for students and $10 for adults.
Under the direction of Dana Wham, who has directed, choreographed, or acted in numerous adult and children productions throughout the region, this year’s “Annie” continues the ORHS Masquers tradition of bringing excellent performances, impressive sets, amazing orchestration, and technical panache to the stage, a press release said.
This family-friendly show starts inside the New York City Municipal Orphanage-Girl’s Annex and features a gang of orphans lead by effervescent Annie. After unsuccessfully running away from the horrible Miss Hannigan, Annie is invited to spend Christmas with Oliver Warbucks, the richest man in the world. Though their relationships starts awkwardly, Annie quickly charms the cold business man who swears to spend his fortune helping Annie find her parents. When Miss Hannigan and her criminal brother Rooster find out, trouble quickly ensues.
“With blockbuster musical numbers like ‘Hard Knock Life,’ ‘Tomorrow,’ ‘Easy Street,’ and more, this show will bring joy to all audiences,” the press release said.
Masquers is a student-driven extracurricular program at ORHS of 65-plus students supported by community members and teaching staff from departments across the high school. Past performances have included “The Music Man,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Our Town,” “Dearly Departed,” and many more. Masquers yearly season showcases a fall play, a spring musical, and a night of short sketches, the press release said.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
