The Oak Ridge Wildcats and Lady Wildcats opened the 2018-2019 season with wins in non-district games at Meigs County on Tuesday.
The boys won 72-27, and the girls won 56-38.
It was the first time the Oak Ridge and Meigs County boys teams have played against each other, according to broadcaster David Clary of Prepradio.com. The girls last met in 1994.
The Oak Ridge boys and other teams across the state, including Meigs County, won’t be at full strength until their football season is over. The Wildcats’ next basketball game will be in the Bahamas next week. Their next local games will be at Halls on Tuesday, November 27, and at Campbell County on Friday, November 30. They will open at home on Tuesday, December 4, when they will play Karns.
Clary said Oak Ridge senior Jada Guinn entered the season with 1,472 points, which means she ranks 12th on the all-time list. The girls will play again at Halls on Tuesday, November 27, and at Campbell County on Friday, November 30. They will be at home on Tuesday, December 4, when they will play Karns. (The girls’ games start at 6 p.m., and the boys’ games starts at 7:30.)
