Man accused of robbing pregnant woman, kicking her in stomach

An Oak Ridge man allegedly broke into an apartment on Utica Circle on Monday, threatened a pregnant woman while brandishing a folding pocket knife, and demanded prescriptions and cash, Anderson County court records said. When the woman resisted, the court records said, she was thrown to the ground and kicked in the stomach, and the man jammed his knee into her back to try to get her to comply.

“The victim was in fear of great bodily harm or death to herself or her unborn child,” according to affidavits filed Tuesday in Anderson County General Sessions Court in Oak Ridge.

The affidavits, filed by Oak Ridge Police Department Investigator A. Marvell Moore, said the victim is seven months pregnant.

After the alleged home invasion robbery, the suspect, Jordan Lamar Young, 31, of Tuskegee Drive, fled the apartment with the pregnant woman’s prescription medication and $301 in cash, the affidavits said.

“After fleeing the scene, the suspect discarded the tan colored hoodie jacket he was wearing as well as the victim’s bag, concealing them behind a bush,” the affidavits said. “As the suspect continued to flee on foot, he discarded the victim’s prescription pill bottle. The suspect then neatly placed the victim’s money in his own wallet so as if to conceal the fact that it had been stolen in haste. The suspect was aware that police were enroute as he was notified via cellphone by acquaintances at the scene.”

The suspect was known to the victim, and the woman said she could positively identify him in a photo lineup, according to the affidavits.

“Witnesses at the scene also identified the suspect by name as they had seen him loitering in the area and then fleeing the scene,” the affidavits said.

Young has been charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, theft, and tampering with evidence. He has a court date set for 1 p.m. April 3 in Anderson County General Sessions Court in Oak Ridge.

Young’s bond has been set at $126,000. He remained jailed in the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton on Tuesday evening.

There could be additional charges against Young, according to the affidavits.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
