CLAXTON—Two people were shot at a home in Claxton on Saturday, and they both appear to have non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

The shooting was reported at about 5:24 p.m. Saturday. One of the victims was at the BreadBox Market on Edgemoor Road in Claxton, Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said.

When they arrived at the BreadBox, deputies learned the shooting had taken place at a home on Clinton Highway, Lucas said. When deputies went to that house at 3008 Clinton Highway, they found a second person who had been shot, Lucas said.

The shooting victims were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville by Anderson County EMS. Both victims appeared to have non-life threatening injuries, Lucas said.

“However, we don’t have an update on their condition,” he said.

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, and no additional information is available at this time, Lucas said. Investigators were at the house, which is at the intersection of Clinton Highway and Lonesome Dove Road, for at least several hours after the shooting.

The victims have not been identified. Neither have any suspects. A motive for the shooting was not immediately clear Saturday night.

Update: Investigators are questioning a suspect and his girlfriend in the shooting, Lucas said Saturday night.

The two are believed to be involved in the shooting, and they were taken into custody without incident at a relative’s mobile home, Lucas said.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
