Knoxville Area Model Railroaders are offering model railroad items for sale during the Holiday Express model railroad display that fills the gymnasium at the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge.
HO-scale, N-scale, and large-scale items are being offered at attractive prices. They could be gifts for your child or that grown child who still plays with trains. Sales will be open during the Holiday Express operating hours, with a portion of all sales donated to the Museum, a press release said.
Holiday Express features a miniature holiday village with 10 garden-scale model trains and thousands of lights at the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge Visitors may wander through a 2,500-square-foot G-scale railroad display inside the gymnasium, open weekends and during Christmas week through January 1.
Designed by landscaper and train enthusiast Mark Fuhrman, the display includes rivers, waterfalls and more than 100 scale model buildings decorated for the holidays. Hours are from noon-8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 1-6 p.m. Sundays. On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, hours are from noon-6 p.m. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of Christmas week, Holiday Express is open from noon-8 p.m.
Admission is $5 per person, and children under 3 are admitted free. Children’s Museum members receive a $1 discount. Combo tickets for a museum visit and train display viewing are $12 for adults, $11 for seniors 62 and older, and $10 for children ages 3-17, during hours that Museum exhibits are open.
Children’s Museum exhibits will be closed December 24, 25, 31, and January 1. Museum hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday.
