Three people escaped with no injuries from a house fire on Northwestern Avenue in the Woodland neighborhood early Sunday, authorities said.
An adult male and two juveniles were home at the time of the fire, and all three escaped, said Eric Rackard, Oak Ridge Fire Department battalion chief.
The fire was reported near the intersection with Nasson Lane just after midnight Sunday.
The cause is under investigation, Rackard said.
A preliminary cause said there was a fire pit in the back yard, and the occupant of the home brought a log from the fire pit into the house to start a fire, Rackard said. But at some point, the fire escaped the fireplace in the house, Rackard said.
He said the fire damage was mostly contained to the living room or den area of the home, but there was smoke and heat damage elsewhere in the house.
The Oak Ridge Police Department responded and was able to help keep the adult occupant from going back inside the house, Rackard said.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
