JACKSBORO—The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats became the only undefeated team in District 3-AAA with a 56-39 win over Campbell County in Jacksboro on Tuesday.

Both basketball teams were undefeated before the game.

The Lady Cougars (13-5, 6-1 District 3-AAA) led or were tied with the Lady Wildcats for much of the first half, and Oak Ridge trailed 14-10 at the end of the first quarter.

But the Lady Wildcats (15-2, 7-0) led 24-21 at halftime and never trailed again. Oak Ridge outscored Campbell County 21-9 in the fourth quarter.

Oak Ridge Paige Green called it a huge win. Campbell County has shooters and players who can drive to the basket, and the team is well-coached, she said.

In the first half, the Lady Wildcats mostly scored from inside the paint, rather than from the outside or perimeter, Green said. Also, Campbell County controlled the tempo in the first half, she said.

But Oak Ridge controlled the tempo in the second half and played better defense, getting stops, Green said.

She said juniors Mykia Dowdell and Destiny Kassner both played well in the paint, sophomore Jada Guinn handled the Campbell County pressure, and freshman Brianna Dunbar came off the bench to score three baskets on three offensive rebounds in the second quarter.

Guinn led all scorers with 20 points. Fourteen of those were in the fourth quarter, with seven from the free throw line. Kassner scored 13 points, and Dowdell had 12.

Sophmore Skylar Boshears led Campbell County with 15 points. No other Lady Cougar scored more than six.

Oak Ridge and Campbell County were also both undefeated in the district when they first played last season, and the two teams were the number one and number two seed in the district playoffs. The Lady Cougars’ two district losses were both to Oak Ridge last season. The Lady Wildcats finished as state runner-up in Class AAA.

The two teams will meet again this season at Wildcat Arena on February 10.

Before then, the Lady Wildcats will play Clinton for the second time, at home at 6 p.m. Friday, January 13. Oak Ridge beat the Lady Dragons 61-19 in Clinton on November 29.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
