“As an educator for over 30 years, a Board of Education member for 15 years, and as a parent of a student who entered the Oak Ridge Schools as a kindergartener and is now a graduate student at UTK, I feel I have a vested interest in helping the schools continue to excel in providing an outstanding education for the young people of Oak Ridge,” Fillauer said in the press release. “I am more than ever committed to keeping the quality of education in Oak Ridge a drawing card for new residents as well as giving every student an opportunity to prepare themselves for a career or college education.
“There are many great things happening in our schools and community. When elected, I will focus on moving toward completion of our new pre-school, continuing the strong working relationship with City Council, promoting the great teachers and students in our system, and seeing that the standards that have been set for our school district in our Seven Keys to College and Career Readiness continue to reflect strong growth for our district. Yes, there are challenges, but I am committed to keep the standards set for our schools at the highest level.”
Fillauer is married to the former Melanie Chitwood of Oak Ridge and they have one son, Parks. The household also includes their favorite dog, Paizley. The family is a member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge.
