Keys Fillauer is seeking to be re-elected to the Oak Ridge Board of Education.
Fillauer has served on the school board for 15 years and has served as chair for the last four years. He also serves as East director for the Tennessee School Board Association Board of Directors.
Fillauer is a retired Oak Ridge teacher and coach. He taught and coached at Robertsville Junior High for 27 years and at Oak Ridge High School for four years, a press release said. Fillauer has been recognized as a member of the All Tennessee School Board, Tennessee Teacher of the Year, and Freedom Foundation Award winner, and he received the Governor’s Outstanding Tennessean Award.
Fillauer has also received the Service Above Self award from the Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club, the press release said. He is a member of the Oak Ridge Sports Hall of Fame and the Anderson County Hall of Fame.
Fillauer serves as president of a property management business in Cleveland, Tennessee. He is involved in many fundraising efforts, especially for the Ronald McDonald House, the press release said.
Fillauer was appointed by Judge Don Elledge and serves as the Anderson County Grand Jury foreman.
“As an educator for over 30 years, a Board of Education member for 15 years, and as a parent of a student who entered the Oak Ridge Schools as a kindergartener and is now a graduate student at UTK, I feel I have a vested interest in helping the schools continue to excel in providing an outstanding education for the young people of Oak Ridge,” Fillauer said in the press release. “I am more than ever committed to keeping the quality of education in Oak Ridge a drawing card for new residents as well as giving every student an opportunity to prepare themselves for a career or college education.
“There are many great things happening in our schools and community. When elected, I will focus on moving toward completion of our new pre-school, continuing the strong working relationship with City Council, promoting the great teachers and students in our system, and seeing that the standards that have been set for our school district in our Seven Keys to College and Career Readiness continue to reflect strong growth for our district. Yes, there are challenges, but I am committed to keep the standards set for our schools at the highest level.â€
Fillauer is married to the former Melanie Chitwood of Oak Ridge and they have one son, Parks. The household also includes their favorite dog, Paizley. The family is a member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge.
