An Oak Ridge man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault after allegedly shooting his sister, hitting her in the ear, during an argument on Pacific Road in April, court records said.

Eric Joe Wilson, 42, allegedly got a handgun from his bedroom during the April 19 argument at 107 Pacific Road after stating he was going to shoot his sister, according to affidavits filed in Anderson County General Sessions Court in Oak Ridge.

“The defendant fired one shot in victim’s direction, striking her in the ear,” according to the affidavits, which were filed by Oak Ridge Police Department Detective Kevin Craig.

The sister, Suzan Stiles, had a gunshot wound to the ear, the two affidavits said. She was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville to be treated.

The siblings’ mother, Lavonne Wilson, said she heard Wilson say he was going to shoot his sister just before the shot was fired, Craig said.

“The defendant did knowingly and intentionally retrieve his handgun from his bedroom and fire it at the victim’s head after stating he was going to shoot her,” Craig said.

Wilson remains jailed in the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton, with his total bond set at $125,000.

He has a hearing scheduled in Anderson County General Sessions Court in Oak Ridge at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The shooting and attempted murder and aggravated charges have previously been reported, but the specific type of attempted murder charge (first-degree) has not been.

The day of the shooting, the ORPD said Wilson fled the home in a vehicle, and authorities soon learned he might be on his way to a home in Morgan County. So, the ORPD altered authorities there.

A short time later, Oak Ridge Police Department detectives were able to contact Wilson, who was at a family member’s home in Coalfield. He was eventually taken into custody there by Morgan County deputies.

Wilson was brought to Oak Ridge, where he was arrested by the ORPD and taken to the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton, where he was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Pacific Road is off Pennsylvania Avenue just west of New York Avenue.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
