An Oak Ridge resident who has management and administrative experience in the public and private sectors has been appointed city clerk, officials said Monday.
Oak Ridge City Manager Mark Watson announced the appointment of Beth Hickman on Monday. Hickman will replace former City Clerk Diana Stanley, who resigned in November 2015.
Hickman has more than 15 years of management and administrative experience in both the public and private sectors, a press release said.
She served as field representative for former U.S. Congressman Lincoln Davis and as executive assistant at The Roane Alliance.
She is presently employed at Vanderbilt University Law School as a faculty assistant.
Hickman will administer the activities of the City Clerk’s Office, which includes maintaining and preserving the city’s official records, coordinating City Council agenda materials, attending all City Council meetings, preparing minutes, and providing staff support to City Council.
“I am extremely pleased to select Beth Hickman as our new city clerk,†Watson said in the press release. “Beth has been an Oak Ridge resident for many years and is familiar with the intricacies of our community. I am excited about the significant experience she has in public service in Tennessee at a federal, state, and local level. She will bring an excellent background to her duties and the post of city clerk. As the official record keeper of the city, this important job could not be in better hands.â€
Hickman has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Vanderbilt University, and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
“I am very honored to have been selected as the Oak Ridge city clerk,†Hickman said. “I believe that my prior experience in public service will be a tremendous asset to this position and to the city. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the citizens of this wonderful city that I love so much.”
Hickman’s anticipated start date is February 16. Her salary will be $50,000.
