The Clinton Christmas Parade is Saturday, December 5, and former mayor Charles G. “Bones†Seivers will be grand marshal.
Clinton’s traditional Christmas Parade of bands, floats, and many other processional entries will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, a press release said. This year’s theme is “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.â€
Businesses, churches, schools, and other marching groups are encouraged to register and participate in the parade, the press release said. There is no parade entry fee this year, but a registration form must be submitted. The deadline to register is Tuesday, December 1, at 4:30 p.m. There will be no late entries.
Seivers is a native of Clinton, and he first entered public office in 1962 when he ran for an open alderman seat. He continued to serve the citizens as an elected official for 13 years, the press release said.
In 1970, he was elected mayor. During his mayoral term, a committee determined that the city needed a full-time administrator and Seivers was appointed to that position in 1972.
Seivers became involved in the Tennessee Municipal League in 1962 and helped found the TML Insurance Pool now known as the TML Risk Management Pool. Recognizing the need for municipalities to obtain low-cost financing for capital improvement needs, a special committee of that board voted in August 1985 to create a loan program for cities and Seivers served on that board as chair for eight years.
In 1992, after 30 years of service to city governments, TML presented Seivers with one of the highest honors, the Beverly C. Briley Award, the press release said. He was also rewarded when the Clinton Community Center was dedicated to him in 1978, and the highway through Clinton was named the Charles G. Seivers Boulevard in 1987. He has received several other prestigious awards over his career.
