Officials at the Y-12 National Security Complex have reopened the plant to employees following a temporary closure early Thursday morning after a person drove through the east gate of Y-12 at Scarboro Road and crashed his vehicle near a parking lot area.
The crash occurred at about 5:52 a.m. Thursday.
Y-12 security police officers responded and subsequently apprehended the man, who was then arrested by the Oak Ridge Police Department, a press release said.
“Employees onsite during the closure were placed in curfew and not allowed to leave plant buildings,” the release said. “The onsite curfew has been lifted.”
The National Nuclear Security Administration said there was no risk to nuclear operations as a result of the incident.
All entrances to Y-12 National Security Complex had also been temporarily closed.
Earlier Thursday, the NNSA said the plant and its employees were safe and secure, and it and Consolidated Nuclear Security, the plant’s managing and operating contractor, were working closely with the Oak Ridge Police Department on the law enforcement matter.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
