ORHS boys cross country wins McCallie Invitational in Chattanooga

The Oak Ridge High School boys cross country team finished first at the McCallie Cross Country Invitational in Chattanooga on Saturday.

The Wildcats also had three of the top five male runners in the 5,000-meter run, or 5k.

Senior Mitchell Poynter of Tippecanoe was the top individual male runner, finishing the 5k in 15:43.57.

Senior Tyler Boullie of ORHS was 14 seconds behind him in second place, finishing the race in 15:57.96.

Boullie was followed by junior Jacob Etheridge of ORHS at 16:22.88.

A Maryville runner, senior David Nagle, crossed the finish line next, followed by senior Thomas Colburn of Oak Ridge at 16:27.59.

Here are how the other Oak Ridge boys finished:

  • 17th—senior Daniel Beckett at 16:43.42
  • 26th—senior Richard Martin at 17:04.55
  • 32nd—sophomore Will Jeter at 17:17.77
  • 36th—junior Jose Villegas at 17:25.70

The Tippecanoe team finished in second place. Maryville and Farragut were third and fourth, and Independence High School was fifth.

The Oak Ridge girls team finished fifth. Tippecanoe had four of the top six individual runners, and their team finished first.

Other girls teams in the top five were Maryville (second), Baylor (third), and Farragut (fourth).

The top individual female runner for Oak Ridge was sophomore Genevieve Schwartz. She had a time of 20:43.66 and finished 20th.

Next for the Wildcats was sophomore Robyn Wood, who finished 23rd at 21:03.15.

Here are how the other Oak Ridge girls finished:

  • 26th—senior Megan Peters at 21:17.76
  • 27th—junior Abbey Greenhalgh at 21:20.75
  • 33rd—senior Elisabeth Martin at 21:41.85
  • 37th—junior Maddie Zawisza at 22:00.57
  • 47th—senior Evelyn Pieper at 23:01.73

The Oak Ridge cross country team also competed in the Trinity/Valkyri Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 19.

The girls team finished second there behind Oldham County.

Schwartz and Wood were also the top two female runners at Trinity for the Wildcats. Schwartz finished that 5k in 14th at 20:49.86, and Wood finished 22nd at 21:07.48.

The other girls in the top 100 were:

  • 25th—Peters—21:14.93
  • 28th—Martin—21:22.95
  • 30th—Greenhalgh—21:28.29
  • 64th—Zawisza—22:23.23

The Oak Ridge boys team finished ninth overall and third in the Southeast division. The top three boys teams were Father Ryan High School, Ravenwood, and Springboro.

Trinity is one of the most competitive meets in the nation on that weekend.

Male runners in the top 100 for the Wildcats were:

  • 41st—Villegas at 17:37.43
  • 75th—sophomore Daeton Byars at 18:06.11
  • 88th—senior Matthew Martin at 18:17.94
  • 93rd—senior Jake Goodlaxson at 18:25.18
