The Kern United Methodist Men’s group, assisted by Kern Youth, will host their annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, April 11, in the church Family Life Center. Pancakes with sausage, juice, and coffee will be served from 8 a.m. until noon for the cost of $5 for adults, $3 for children 3-12 years, and under 3 free.

The Men’s Group will also take orders for carpenter bee traps and beautiful handcrafted desk pen holders made from Tennessee red cedar donated and harvested by Kern members. Proceeds from the Pancake Breakfast finance the valuable work the Men’s Group does around the church.

In conjunction with the breakfast, a Plant and Rummage Sale will be held. Church members are contributing plants from their home gardens (e.g., Lenten roses, daisies, butterfly bushes, yellow primroses, hostas, lamb’s ears, etc.). Some plants from the church gardens will also be divided and offered for sale. The Rummage Sale will feature all kinds of large and small miscellaneous items such as kitchen and household items, toys, books, gardening tools, sporting equipment, games, etc. Proceeds from the Plant and Rummage Sale will be used to purchase new flooring/carpet for the church office area.

This year Kern welcomes a special guest to our plant sale. Joe Hall, Anderson County’s UT Agricultural Extension Agent, will be available from 10 a.m. until noon to answer your gardening questions such as how to deal with garden pests (e.g., deer, insects), composting, plant diseases, etc. Joe will bring free soil testing kits, which can be mailed away with a $7 fee to provide an analysis of your garden or lawn soil.

Tickets for the Pancake Breakfast can be purchased at the church office ahead of time or at the door on Saturday, April 11. Kern Church is located at 451 East Tennessee Avenue. For additional information about the Pancake Breakfast and the Plant and Rummage Sale, please contact the church office at (865) 483-5273.
