The temperature the next few days is expected to be brutally cold, and schools and some government offices and contractors have announced they’ll be closed Thursday, or for the rest of the week, because of the weather and road conditions.

Schools in Oak Ridge, Anderson County, Clinton, and Roane County will all be closed Thursday. Roane State Community College will also be closed.

Schools in Clinton and Anderson and Roane counties will also be closed Friday. The Central Office in Anderson County will be closed for the rest of the week, and the Central Office in Roane County will not report Thursday.

The Y-12 National Security Complex is closed again to non-essential personnel on Thursday. The closure includes the UPF offsite offices.

Anderson County government will also be closed Thursday.

ORAU’s Oak Ridge offices will operate on a normal schedule on Thursday. Employees are urged to drive safely to the office.

Many businesses have been closed this week or operating fewer hours than normal. Please call ahead for more specific information.

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce is open.

The Oak Ridge district tournament basketball games have been rescheduled again. The Lady Wildcats’ consolation game will now be at noon Saturday, and the Wildcats will play Karns for the district championship at 4:30 p.m., according to broadcaster David Clary.
