To the Editor:
I am writing to extend my support of Theresa Scott for County Commission for District 7, which includes Highland View, Pine Valley, and Glenwood precincts.
Although I do not live in Ms. Scott’s district, I am certain she will represent and work hard for all of Oak Ridge as one of our county commissioners. Through her years of employment, she brings extensive paralegal, management, and financial experience that qualifies her to deal with many issues that our commission faces.
Other candidates have touted the fact that they are “from and/or live in Oak Ridge” as making them more qualified. I believe the fact that she chose to purchase a “B” house in Oak Ridge while employed in Knoxville 10 years ago is evidence of her dedication to our city and county. Theresa continues to reside in that same house.
Theresa does not just “talk the talk,” she also “walks the walk” through her many volunteer involvements in our community. She has been very active in the city’s neighborhood Watch Program; our Secret City, Lavender, and Earth Day festivals; and the huge Cedar Hill Park rebuild project, just to name a few.
While we served together on the Oak Ridge Beer Permit Board, I considered her to be an asset to our board. It was evident prior to each meeting she had studied the meeting agenda and was informed on the issues before us. She will bring this same kind of professional dedication to the County Commission.
I believe that Theresa will not be a commissioner who just shows up to get her picture and name in the paper or be seen on television; she will be a team player and work with all the other commissioners for what is in the best interest of all of Oak Ridge and Anderson County.
Theresa works hard to keep a tight personal budget, and because she is a proud homeowner who pays her taxes on time, she will work hard to keep our property taxes down and improve our county’s economic situation. She will continue to be open and accessible to her constituents and will be honest about her views and votes on commission.
She has run her campaign the same way she does everything else, through hard work, extensive research, and advanced planning. As promised, she has not cluttered your mailbox with expensive flyers, not has she littered our streets with yard signs placed illegally.
Theresa has been out on her own, walking door to door (over 600,000 steps to date per her pedometer!), to personally introduce herself to the people in her district and listen to their concerns and needs. This is the second time Theresa Scott has run for this office, the first time she lost by only 39 votes.
I ask everyone in District 7 to get out and vote for her during early voting or on election day, ask your friends and neighbors to do the same.
Please don’t let 39 votes prevent us from having a strong voice and positive change on Anderson County Commission.
