Sound Company celebrates ‘Journeys’ on Friday, Saturday

Sound Company, Oak Ridge’s Children’s Performing Choir, will present a unique choral performance this weekend, a press release said. The choir will be providing the community with two opportunities to experience the celebration, including Friday, May 16, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 17, at 2 p.m. All shows will be performed at the Historic Grove Theater at High Places Church, which is at 123 Randolph Road in Oak Ridge.

The show is titled “Journeys: Celebrating the Long and Winding Road of Life.”

Songs performed by Sound Company will include:

  • “Movin’ Right Along,”

  • “Touch the Sky,”
  • “Rhthym of Life,”
  • “When You’re Smiling,”
  • “When I Grow Up,”
  • “True Colors,”
  • “What A Wonderful World,”
  • “Who Will Buy,”
  • “Khana Koloi,”
  • “Come Sail Away,”
  • “Lion Sleeps Tonight,”
  • “No Time,”
  • “Dubula,”
  • “Stompa,”
  • “Friend Like You,”
  • “Wonderful Day Like Today,”
  • “Homeward Bound,”
  • “Magic To Do,” and
  • “You Can Be Whoever You Decide You Are.”

The concert will also feature Sound Company’s a cappella quartets as well as solos sung by Sound Company’s graduating seniors.

Sound Company Children’s Choir is a multi-age performing choir based in Oak Ridge and directed by Katy Wolfe-Zahn, Terry Silver-Alford, Mariana Garciagodoy, and Kathy Gillenwaters. The company is comprised of more than 130 children ranging from first through 12th grades from schools and communities in East Tennessee. Sound Company performs in Oak Ridge, Knoxville, and other areas in East Tennessee. Sound Company’s repertoire is wide-ranging, and includes classical, pop, show tunes, folk songs, multi-cultural music, and more. Sound Company strives to encourage the pursuit of excellence and foster joy in music for performers and the community, the press release said. Through a variety of musical genres, the directors educate children with choral singing skills, strong vocal technique, challenging choreography, stage experience, and ensemble performance proficiency. Sound Company was founded in 2003 as a nonprofit performing arts ensemble.
