Clinton businessman Bill Gallaher will seek the Republican nomination for Anderson County Register of Deeds in the May 6 primary election, a press release said.

Gallaher, a local business owner and insurance executive with more than 30 years of professional management, is “excited to bring his executive experience to county government,” a press release said.

Gallaher served as president of Clinton Tire and Oil Co. Inc. from 1980 until 2005. He supervised hundreds of employees and managed more than a half-million-dollar annual payroll for more than two decades, and he was in charge of project development resulting in a $3.2 million annual business, the press release said.

Gallaher is now employed with Madison Insurance Group in its commercial division.

The press release said Gallaher is a conservative business leader who has earned the respect of local business and civic leaders across Anderson County. It said he will use his skills and experience, ranging from staff training and development to regulatory compliance issues, to make the Register of Deeds Office more accountable to Anderson County taxpayers. It said Gallaher plans to conduct a complete audit of the Register of Deeds Office and review the current operating budget to determine where efficiencies can be improved. The candidate will also make sure that professional services are state of the art, and the taxpayer monies that are being spent are being allocated efficiently, the press release said.

“I am excited about the opportunity to offer my business experience to the taxpayers of Anderson County,” Gallaher said. “There are some lessons that come from hard work that taxpayers experience everyday that will benefit the operation of local government. County government should tighten their belts and make the same sacrifices as families across Anderson County make every day. I want to apply my training and be a part of the solution in making Anderson County Government operate more efficiently and be increasingly more accountable with the spending of taxpayer dollars.”

Gallaher presently serves on the board of directors of the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce, Boys and Girls Club. and the Clinch River Home and Health Care Services.

He has served as president of the Clinton Rotary and currently serves as chairman of the Anderson County Retail Development Board.

A lifetime resident of Anderson County, Bill lives with his wife Gail in Clinton and they are members of United Methodist Memorial Church, the press release said.
