Rescuers locate trio stranded overnight on Windrock Mountain trail

Rescuers have located three people stranded overnight on Windrock Mountain near Oliver Springs.

The trio—ages 19, 22, and 24 years old—were stuck in vehicles on a trail and called Anderson County 911, authorities said.

“Our dispatch mapped the coordinates and forwarded the information to the rescue squad,” Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said.

He said all three were located. The two men were checked out by EMS at the scene, and the woman was taken to Methodist Medical Center as a precaution.

The Anderson County Rescue Squad and the Marlow Fire Department were the primary search teams. WYSH Radio in Clinton reported that rescue crews from Morgan County also helped in the overnight mission.

The three got stuck on an off-road vehicle trail after one of their vehicles got stuck and blocked the other one in, WYSH said. Rescuers reached the two men and one woman shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

More information will be added as it becomes available.

Yeah, Huge thank you to our rescuers, and hopefully we won’t ever get that stuck again. I will be back at Windrock, just maybe not in the same vehicle. Your info is slightly incorrect though, a tree had fallen across the trail, but was flat on the ground, when my friend drove over it, it rolled over and blocked him in. We tried to push it out of the way with his truck, but couldn’t get it far enough off the trail for him to get out(it was too heavy to lift). My vehicle lost 4×4, and couldn’t climb out from where we were. If we had bee able to move the tree, the truck had room to get past mine. The worst part was not knowing where we actually were, the trail we had gone down was not on the park map, and in fact had been closed until recently.
