Eula Surber Crockett, age 93, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.
She was born Jan. 2, 1921, in Rose Hill, Va., the daughter of Dallard and Esther Killion Surber, who were farmers. She was next to the youngest of a family of six that included two daughters and four sons. She married Harry Crockett on Feb. 11, 1939, a schoolmate. She and her husband came to Oak Ridge in 1946 and always loved living here. Her husband passed away in 1983 after a heart attack.
Mrs. Crockett worked for JCPenney Co. in the drapery department, making drapes in the 1960s. She also worked for the Nettie Lee Shop in the 1980s doing alternations.
She was a member of the Oak Ridge Alliance Church. She enjoyed quilting and sewing and was a member of the Good Neighbor Club.
In addition to her parents, siblings and husband, she was preceded in death by great-grandson Tyler Bennett.
She is survived by daughter, Shirley Graham and husband Robert of Oak Ridge; two grandchildren, Colleen Burton of Oak Ridge and Michael Graham and wife Trish of Rockwood; three great grandchildren, Justin Graham of Pigeon Forge, Haley Graham of Rockwood, and Tessa Bennett of Sterling, Conn.; sister-in-law, Kate Crockett of Cookeville; local niece, Kaye Farrar of Oliver Springs; local nephew, Tommy Surber of Oliver Springs; and extended family, Sonya and Gordon Cole and their son Steven of Oak Ridge.
A graveside service was held on Monday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Rev. Dale Crank officiating. The family asks that any memorials be made in her memory to the Alliance Church, 109 Raleigh Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
